An Honorary Reporter & Member of the K-Influencer Academy for 2021!

Shortly after my last post, I realized I may have gotten ahead of myself a little bit.  Oops.

My last post, if you recall, was the very first article I had written and submitted as an Honorary Reporter for Korea.net.  But I completely forgot to mention that I had been accepted as an Honorary Reporter, much less explain any of it.

So that’s what I’m doing now!

I found out about the Honorary Reporter program earlier in the year through a Facebook group for the K-Friends program I joined last year.  After doing some research into it, I applied for the program back in March, and found out I had been accepted in April.

Also around the same time, I applied to be part of the 2021 K-Influencer Academy, another program offered by Korea.net, and found out I had been accepted into that as well!

But what does all of this mean?

The Honorary Reporters, to quote this article from Korea.net: “consist of foreign nationals both in and out of Korea who promote Korean culture, information and events around the world for a year on Korea.net and its social media accounts”.

Essentially, I’ll be writing articles about my experiences with Korean culture, current events, or just general information as it pertains to Korea.  As you already know, I’ve written one article about learning the Korean language, and my second article was about cooking Korean side dishes, or 반찬.  I’m already planning for future articles, as well, so be on the lookout for those!

Now, about the K-Influencer Academy.  It’s similar to the Honorary Reporter program, but it’s designed for YouTube creators.  It is a training program for anyone who loves Korea, and has a YouTube channel. The program offers video editing workshops and tips on growing and marketing a YouTube channel.

I honestly did not expect to be accepted into the Academy, since I have a grand total of three subscribers on my Made By Smree YouTube Channel.  But somehow I was accepted into the general program, which means I’ll be participating in monthly mission video prompts from June through December.

I've recently completed my very first video, which you can watch below! (And hey, if you want to subscribe for future content from me, I would be absolutely okay with that too.)

So there you have it: How I became both an Honorary Reporter AND part of the K-Influencer Academy for 2021.

Now that we're all up to speed, I hope you all enjoy the content that is yet to come, as well as all the shenanigans that are sure to happen along the way!

  1. Wow, I am happy to hear it. I am also an Honorary Reporter. Oh yes, my advice is if you want to continue activities as honorary reprisals make sure you don't forget to re-register for honorary reporter 2022.

Bofur Inspired Hat Pattern

(Check out this handy dandy Pinterest ready graphic I made!) In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, one of the dwarves (Bofur) wore this really, really awesome hat.  I fell in love with it, and decided to see if I could crochet my own version of it.  Well, first I scoured the internet, hoping for a pattern, and when I didn't find one THEN I decided to make my own.  And since I know there are others out there who would love to have this pattern, I'm posting it here! PLEASE NOTE: You may make items and sell them using this pattern, but PLEASE link back to the pattern and credit me as the source. As Seen on Pinterest - The Retirement Survival Kit

One of my co-workers recently retired. I'm happy for her, because she really deserves it and everything...but I hate that she's leaving me!  I tried to bribe her into staying. I even threatened to lock her in the office and refuse to let her go.  Oddly, she didn't like that suggestion.  Since she was set on this notion of retirement, I immediately began scouring Pinterest for some sort of cute retirement gift for her. I knew I'd find something there, and I was not disappointed! Fairly soon after beginning my search, I came across the 'Retirement Survival Kit'.  (Photo from Pinterest - original pin link ) The pin was a link to an eBay auction, but of course my first thought on seeing it was "I can do that!". So I did.   I really should have taken a better photo of it. But this is all I managed to get. So, uh, ta da! I changed a few of the items around (the original link was from the UK, so some of the items weren't available)

As Seen on Pinterest: Pillar of Cloud and Fire Craft

Woo hoo! It's time for another As Seen on Pinterest post!  This time, it was a cute little kids' craft to go along with the story of Moses and the Children of Israel being led through the wilderness by the pillar of cloud by day, and fire by night. It fit nicely into one of our Sunday School lessons this quarter, so we decided to give it a whirl! Here's the original pin: You'll need toilet paper tubes, construction paper, tissue paper (white and orange), scissors and tape. It's a pretty straightforward craft, really. Cut the construction paper to cover the tube and tape it down. Then cut a generous square of the tissue paper (one in each color) and use some tape to stick it to the insides of the tube. That part is a bit tricky, but with some finagling, it can be done! And that's it! Isn't it cute? The kiddos loved them too. It was so great hearing them telling others what it was and what it signified. Unt
