BookSirens

As you’ve seen from some of my previous book review posts, I’ve been given the opportunity to read a few ARC (advance reader copies) of several books over the past couple years.  For some of them, I was asked by the author to read and review.  However, a few months back I received a message on Goodreads extending an invitation for me to join a site called BookSirens , and after doing some research into it, I decided to join.  And if you enjoy reading and reviewing books, you should consider joining too!  On BookSirens, authors can post their books in order to obtain reviews on various sites like Amazon, Goodreads, and others.  Readers can join (for free!) and review the books (again, for free!) that are posted.  There are thousands of books available, from all sorts of genres, and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve read so far!  Some of them have been better than others, naturally, but I’ve been able to read some great works for free! The amou...

Review: Wiliam Wilde and the Necrosed

William Wilde and the Necrosed by Davis Ashura Full disclosure: I was given a copy of the ebook in exchange for a review. Now for my thoughts. Mr. Ashura is the master of a slow burn. In the first book of his prior series (a wicked good read, by the way), and also in this one, there is what seems to be a long buildup before any true “action”. But don’t let that discourage you - think of it like the lit fuse of a stick of dynamite. Mr. Ashura uses the time to craft his worlds and to get you invested into his characters while the fire travels along the fuse, and then BOOM. The action explodes and off you go on a wild ride with the characters you’ve grown to love. And then it doesn’t let up. William Wilde is a spectacularly fun read, and I truly enjoyed diving into his world. Once I started the book, I had a pretty hard time putting it back down. (*shakes a proverbial fist at the author for causing my lack of sleep*). I just had to know what would happen next! It’s incredibly well balanc...

App Review: Clawbert

I am a huge fan of casual, cute games for my phone. Something I can simply play when I want to, to relax or de-stress, and something that I don't HAVE to log in to everyday.  Most games I've found that fit into this category are 'collection' games, where the main portion of the game is to collect X items to move on/complete the level/etc. I'm currently playing Neko Atsume (Kitty Collector), which sort of fits this idea.  Another game I tried (and ultimately lost interest in), was Kleptocats. It's produced by Hyperbeard Games, which is how I wound up finding the game I'm going to review today - Clawbert.  Clawbert is, according to the game description, a lonely claw who would like to find friends. The machine fills with a mixture of eggs, coins and gems, and you 'grab' the eggs to hatch them in order to find Clawbert friends.

Review: Angel Glow Ring Hair Mask

I may have a new addiction. Korean beauty products.  And how, you might ask yourself, does a gal in rural North Carolina end up addicted to such a random thing?  I've recently gotten into watching a YouTube channel of a husband & wife who lived in Korea, and are now living in Japan. (Simon & Martina, if you're curious). She reviewed a few products by Etude House on their channel, and my interests were piqued.  I wound up buying some Etude House products from Amazon, and fell in love. THEN, I discovered that Ulta stores carry the TonyMoly brand (although its crazy expensive there), and the addiction began.  Most (not all) of the products are way cheaper on Amazon, so I highly recommend buying them there if you can. However, some things aren't available, or the shipping takes forever. But if you can find one for a good price with decent shipping - win!  On a recent shopping trip with my cousin, we visited an Ulta that had a great selection of...

Man of Steel - Movie Review

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a brand new movie review from me! :) Before I go any further, let me state this loud and clear... WARNING: THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. Now. Let's continue . Unless you live under a rock, you probably know that there is this little movie called Man of Steel that just came out today. Now, I must confess, I'm not entirely on the Superman bandwagon. I like Superman, but I just have other superheroes I like better. However, the previews for Man of Steel looked so great, I decided to give it a whirl. And I'm so glad I did!  My brother and I went to the midnight release, and it was absolutely worth the sleep deprivation. So if this review seems a bit rambly and random, I shall have to blame it on the fact that I've had a grand total of about four hours sleep. :) The movie was incredibly well crafted, superbly casted and acted, and was thoroughly enjoyable. The pacing was fantastic and kept you interested...
