Valentine Crafts 2015 Roundup!

Happy Valentine's Day!  I seriously intended to post this long before now, but...well I forgot, okay? But hey, better late than never, am I right?  Right.  Moving on!  I decided to do a little something special for my friends this year, and I found an adorable idea on Pinterest . I decided I wanted to fancy mine up a bit more than what these were.  I snagged a heart outline from here , and then jazzed it up in Photoshop to add the color and text. All that was left then was to simply cut them out and paste them onto the socks! The brand I found had a cardboard topper, so it was perfect for what I had in mind. Aren't they adorable? I love how they turned out! And in case you want to use this idea for yourself, here's a printable version of the graphic I used!  To be honest, I can't remember what size I saved it as, but I'm thinking it's in the neighborhood of 2.5x3? (Or maybe 2x3.5? I don't k...

A Very Doge Birthday

Saturday was my little brother, Nick's birthday, and I must say, I'm quite proud of the card I made for him, even though it was ridiculously simple. He is very big on internet memes, and so it's sort of a 'thing' between us to share the funnier ones and such. We'll even throw some of the phrases into normal conversation (if you can consider our conversations normal, that is).  One in particular we use often is the doge meme . So naturally, it seemed the perfect choice for his birthday card!  I did a quick Google Image search for the blank picture, and added the text on with Photoshop. From there, I just printed it off and stuck it onto a blank card. Super simple? You bet! But hey, it sort of fits the theme for the meme, I think.  The card got exactly the reaction I was expecting too! Nick opened it, shook his head, and just muttered "....wow."  I'm calling it a success. XD

Winter Soldier Scarf & Semi-Pattern

Happy Friday! (And also Happy Pi Day, for those of you of the geeky persuasion!) This scarf began as one of those 'I want to make something for meeeeee' projects. I'd been buried under requests for things for others (which is nice, don't get me wrong), that it had been awhile since I was able to whip up something for myself. So one night I decided I'd stop at the store and buy myself some yarn to make myself a new scarf. Allllll for me.  I chose the colors originally thinking it would be a Thor-inspired color scheme, but once I started working I realized it was more Captain America-ish than anything. Which works just as well for me.  And so, I'm dubbing this my 'Winter Solider' scarf, in honor of the new Captain America move coming out in April! (And no, I'm not being paid to plug this movie by Marvel, I just love them is all!)   I used three colors of Caron Simply Soft Party yarn, which I'd never used before but ended up ...

Geekcrafts.com Feature!

Do you know what happens when you don't log into your blog for some time?  I honestly thought I would log back in and see much of the same, a few hits here, a few there.... But I was wrong .  Through the power of my stats page, I found out that my Bofur Hat Pattern had been featured on GeekCrafts.com! I was actually featured back in January, and I really hate I didn't notice it until recently. However, that did not make me any less excited!  Here's the link to my feature , but please peruse the other articles on the site as well. I've seen some really unique things so far!:)

A Quick Bag Revamp

Well. That break from blogging lasted a bit longer than I intended. Life got quite hectic on about the Thanksgiving/Christmas stretch of last year, and so I just set my blog aside for the time being, fully intending to return to it in January. And then January went thundering past, waving gleefully as it did so, and thus I decided that February would mark my triumphant return. And then February passed. Oops. AND SO! Now it is March, and I am finally returned! Hopefully to stay, this time. And now let's move on, shall we?  :) I don't know how any of you feel about it, but the weather this year has been insane , in my opinion. We've gone from 70 degrees one day, to snow and bitter cold the next.  At least my little snowman was cute, right? XD And while I love snow as much as the next person, I'm starting to feel the itch of spring fever. I'm ready to get my fingers into the dirt and plant things (I'm already plotting what flowers I'd l...

Painted Shoe Shenangians

Awhile back, I decided to customize a pair of shoes to wear to see Thor: The Dark World when it came out. I took a few photos along the way, so I could share! :) Here are the original shoes. I got them for $8. They're Converse knockoffs. I just couldn't see spending a ton of money on shoes that I could potentially mess up, haha! I wanted the shoes to be black with green and gold accents, as an homage to Loki (who is my favorite). I chose to paint the shoelace area and heels green, and use the gold on the accompanying seams.  Here's an in-progress shot... I used Tulip brand fabric paints, and very small brushes. It was painstaking work to try to keep it as neat as possible, but entirely worth it! And here's the finished shoes!  I really love how they came out. They're wonderfully unique, without being too ostentatious. I wish I could have somehow gotten the shoelace grommets gilded too, but eh. I got a bit on ...

Super Simple Candle Refab

I recently gained a new coworker (who I adore), and she is very much like me in terms of wanting to decorate. As such, our office is currently bedecked in all manner of fall related goodness, including some lovely scented candles!  However, I noticed that the candles seemed rather plain and blah, so I thought it would be nice to give them a little facelift. I originally planned to use washi tape, but after I ran across some adhesive ribbon at Wal-Mart for only 97 cents, I decided to give it a whirl instead. So here's super easy candle refab to liven up those boring glass jars!  Here's what you need. A candle (or two, like we had). Adhesive ribbon Scissors AND THAT'S IT! (I told you this was going to be easy.) Take your candle... And the adhesive ribbon... And wrap a length of the ribbon around the candle so you know how much you'll need. Mark it with a pencil, or just use your fing...

As Seen on Pinterest: Pillar of Cloud and Fire Craft

Woo hoo! It's time for another As Seen on Pinterest post!  This time, it was a cute little kids' craft to go along with the story of Moses and the Children of Israel being led through the wilderness by the pillar of cloud by day, and fire by night. It fit nicely into one of our Sunday School lessons this quarter, so we decided to give it a whirl! Here's the original pin: You'll need toilet paper tubes, construction paper, tissue paper (white and orange), scissors and tape. It's a pretty straightforward craft, really. Cut the construction paper to cover the tube and tape it down. Then cut a generous square of the tissue paper (one in each color) and use some tape to stick it to the insides of the tube. That part is a bit tricky, but with some finagling, it can be done! And that's it! Isn't it cute? The kiddos loved them too. It was so great hearing them telling others what it was and what it signified. Unt...

Whoops.

It appears I haven't posted here since July. Sorry about that. So, uh...hi? The past couple months were INSANE, for a variety of (mostly good) reasons. Mostly, I was busily preparing to embark on my first ever cruise to the Bahamas!  It was SO much fun, and I'm hoping to share some photos here...eventually. I have a backlog of other stuff that needs posting too, but for now, I just wanted to pop in to say hello, that I'm not dead, and hopefully you'll see more of me soon. And also to share these beauties with you!   My local Dollar Tree has had these stickers for awhile now. They're made for scrapbooking (I think), but I love using them to make cards. I'm sure there are a thousand other things they could be used for, though! And since they're only $1 a pack, it's budget friendly too! :) Hopefully I'll have some goodies to share with you all soon, so stay tuned!

Stark Industries Messenger Bag

This is actually a repost from my old version of this blog...but hey, it works right!? Right!  I love geeky little stuff. A lot. I love messenger bags. A lot. It's even better when the two things I like a lot merge. For example, the Stark Industries messenger bag I saw over at We Love Fine Tees . However, I did not like the price. So I did what any insane crafty minded individual would do. I promptly bellowed "I can make that!" and set out to do it.  And I did.  Here's what I used.  -gray messenger bag from Target (I think it cost $14.99-$19.99) - Tulip fabric paint ($1.50 each) in black, silver glitter and light blue - round sponge brushes ($1 for the pack of two) - Stark Industries logo (printed onto cardstock) - cutting mat - exacto knife First, I used the mat and knife to cut out the logo to make my stencil. I actually printed this out twice, and I'm glad I did, because I goofed the first one up. Whoops!  I use...

Super Sleuth Badge

Our Vacation Bible School is this week, and the theme for this year is 'Investigation Destination'. It's a detective theme, and boy is it hard to find decorations/etc to go with it! But that's another story.  On Sunday, I nabbed a bit of inspiration, and decided to make some detective badges for my kiddos using some stuff in my craft stash. I decided to post it here, as I figured it might help some other poor soul who is scouring the interwebs looking for detective themed crafts/etc. :) You will need:  - Felt (I used some from the Dollar Tree. 14 sheets for $1) - Craft foam in yellow and orange (also from the Dollar Tree) - Badge template (Got one off Google!) - Pencil/Pen - Scissors - Glue (any glue will work, I'd think) - Sharpie (not shown) Use the pen/pencil (I found a pen worked best) to trace the outline of the badge template onto the foam. Cut out the badges, and use a sharpie to write your message of choice. I went wi...
