Winter Soldier Scarf & Semi-Pattern

Happy Friday!
(And also Happy Pi Day, for those of you of the geeky persuasion!)

This scarf began as one of those 'I want to make something for meeeeee' projects. I'd been buried under requests for things for others (which is nice, don't get me wrong), that it had been awhile since I was able to whip up something for myself. So one night I decided I'd stop at the store and buy myself some yarn to make myself a new scarf. Allllll for me.
I chose the colors originally thinking it would be a Thor-inspired color scheme, but once I started working I realized it was more Captain America-ish than anything. Which works just as well for me.

And so, I'm dubbing this my 'Winter Solider' scarf, in honor of the new Captain America move coming out in April!
(And no, I'm not being paid to plug this movie by Marvel, I just love them is all!)

I used three colors of Caron Simply Soft Party yarn, which I'd never used before but ended up really liking. It has all the softness of regular Simply Soft, but with a thread of sparkle throughout! And sparkle is always awesome.
The pattern (or basic guide for the scarf) is below. :)

Winter Soldier Scarf

Materials used:
I hook, yarn needle, scissors, Caron Simply Soft Party yarn in navy sparkle, red sparkle and chocolate sparkle (one skein each)
(Note: I ended up running a bit short on the navy with my scarf, but I crochet a bit loosely. This could probably be remedied by using a smaller hook or a shorter beginning chain.)

Row One: With navy yarn, chain 251 (or desired length of scarf), HDC in 2nd st from hook, HDC across, ch 1, turn (250 st total)
Row Two: HDC across, change to red at end, ch1, turn
Row Three: HDC across, change to gray/brown at end, ch1, turn
Row Four: SC across, change to navy at end, ch1, turn
Row Five: HDC across, ch1, turn
Row Six: HDC across, change to red at end, ch1, turn
Row Seven: HDC across, change to gray/brown at end, ch1, turn
Row Eight: SC across, change to navy at end, ch1, turn
Row Nine: HDC across, ch1, turn
Row Ten: HDC across, FO, weave in ends

Edging: Using brown/gray, attach to either end of scarf, ch1, SC around entire scarf (2 SC in each corner), sl st into beginning SC. FO, weave in ends.

And that's it! It's a very adaptable pattern, so you can easily add more rows for more width, or even leave off a few if you want something skinnier!

And as an added bonus, here's a quick photo of Pepper, who "helped" me take photos of my scarf for this post.

Little stinker. :P
Have a great weekend!

Bofur Inspired Hat Pattern

(Check out this handy dandy Pinterest ready graphic I made!) In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, one of the dwarves (Bofur) wore this really, really awesome hat.  I fell in love with it, and decided to see if I could crochet my own version of it.  Well, first I scoured the internet, hoping for a pattern, and when I didn't find one THEN I decided to make my own.  And since I know there are others out there who would love to have this pattern, I'm posting it here! Spidey Warmers

At long last, here is the pattern for the Spidey Warmers! I ended up not being able to get them to the boys til last week-ish, and I had to get their sister to take photos for me to post here. So thanks Jaimie!! Aren't they adorable? As you can see, I made two sets in different colors for them, but the pattern is for the red with blue trim. To make the others, just swap out the colors. Easy as pie! First off: much thanks and credit to the creativeyarn blog, as I used her free pattern as a basis for mine. Thank you!!!!! A Modern Day Martha

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things (Luke 10:41 KJV). Sometimes I believe the Lord looks down on me from above, shakes His head, and declares (and I’m paraphrasing here): “Honey, you really need to calm down.” I, like a modern version of the encumbered sister Martha, often find myself worrying over a great many things.  There is little doubt that there is a lot to worry over in day to day life. There are larger scale concerns such as inflation or simply the economy in general, countries at war, and potential for health crises, or the “smaller” things of life like a busted water pipe in your home or unexpected car repair. The list could easily go on and on, but instead of thinking about all the things we have to potentially worry over, I want to share with you something that the Lord showed me recently that made me really stop and rethink my thought processes regarding worry.   One day, while driving...
