A Modern Day Martha

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things (Luke 10:41 KJV). Sometimes I believe the Lord looks down on me from above, shakes His head, and declares (and I’m paraphrasing here): “Honey, you really need to calm down.” I, like a modern version of the encumbered sister Martha, often find myself worrying over a great many things.  There is little doubt that there is a lot to worry over in day to day life. There are larger scale concerns such as inflation or simply the economy in general, countries at war, and potential for health crises, or the “smaller” things of life like a busted water pipe in your home or unexpected car repair. The list could easily go on and on, but instead of thinking about all the things we have to potentially worry over, I want to share with you something that the Lord showed me recently that made me really stop and rethink my thought processes regarding worry.   One day, while driving...

The Spider-Man Blanket

In my last post, I detailed how I've been making blankets to donate to Hospice. I've tried to use an assortment of colors/styles/etc, to accommodate a variety of people. It's no secret that I am a huuuuuuuge nerd, and especially fond of superheroes and the like.   So naturally, when I saw this Spider-Man fleece in the remnants section of Hobby Lobby, I knew I had to get it. Not only because I liked it, but I just knew I needed to buy it. I debated keeping it for myself, at first, but then I figured someone coming through Hospice could use it more than I could. I even distinctly recall telling someone about it, telling them "You never know, someone might come through, and Spider-Man could be their very favorite. thing. ever." So I finished it up, trying to find an appropriately spiderweb-ish edging to use on it.   When I took the blanket to Hospice, the workers in the volunteer department mentioned they had a young boy that might be interested i...

Seek and Ye Shall Find

I hate decision making. A lot.  I'm not meaning simple decisions, like what to eat for lunch, or what to wear on any given day. I mean the big, life decisions. Like whether or not to take a certain job, for example. These kinds of decisions are so important, at least in my mind, and require so much wisdom and discernment as to know whether or not they are the right choice for your life. Not only that, as a Christian, I must determine whether or not a decision I make is the one that would be pleasing to God for my life. If you stop and think about it, it's a very daunting prospect.  However! It has been proven time and time again that those decisions are a lot easier to make when you seek guidance. And who better to seek guidance from than God Himself! I think sometimes we delude ourselves into thinking that God isn't concerned with our decisions (however small or large they may be). But that's not so. God is interested in every aspect of our lives, and I thin...

A Spiritual Pick-Me-Up

This popped into my head recently one night at church, while the choir was singing. (While I was playing the piano, in fact.)  As soon as I got to some paper I scribbled it down so I wouldn't forget it, and so I could share it. I'm calling it a 'Spiritual pick-me-up', because that's what I think it is.   And even if you're not in need of it now, it's still something amazing to ponder! I've debated elaborating further on these points, and I might still yet in the future, but as for now I'll just let them stand as is. ~*~ God is interested in you.   “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord : and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 37:23 God is invested in you.   “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” 1 Corinthians 6:20 God is in love with you.   “The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: ...

Prayer and Attitudes

Hi blog. Long time, no posting. I have something that's been weighing on my mind, and by jove, I'm going to write about it. Did I just seriously say 'by jove'? Wow. Well, let's continue. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer. I have seen God do some amazing things through it. I have often heard my dad preach about prayer, being patient and waiting on God to answer your prayers, and being persistent. He said once that he wondered how often we were incredibly close to having our prayers answered, but then we give up and we lose out on a blessing. I wonder that myself. I'm guilty of it myself, but I'm attempting to do better. However, I've recently been wondering about another aspect of prayer. And that is attitude. More specifically, I've been wondering if sometimes God doesn't answer our prayers because we're praying with the wrong kind of attitude. Maybe we're praying out of anger (guilty!) or something else, but it...
