As Seen on Pinterest: Photo Frame Ring Holder

I have a love/hate relationship with Pinterest. I love that there are so many fabulous ideas in one place, and I can easily spend hours looking through pins, finding ideas and things I want to try. 
However, a lot of times (especially with me), whenever I attempt a Pinterest craft, it fails. And it fails miserably. 

I'm happy to report, then, that I recently tried an 'As Seen on Pinterest' - and it wasn't a fail!

This photo/craft that has been floating around on Pinterest for what seems like ages. It's for a ring holder, made out of a small photo frame, and it's absolutely adorable.
The pin usually says 'would be great for wedding gift' or something along those lines. One pin I read suggested that it be used to keep rings safe while doing dishes or other chores near the sink, which I thought was a great idea!

Anyway, I decided to make one for someone I know who is a nail technician. She has to remove her rings a lot to do nails, so I thought it would be a neat thing for her to put on her work surface.

I'll confess I didn't follow the original instructions at all, but just went off the picture.

 Here's the run down of what I used:
- small photo frame (it was a place setting frame, approx. 2.5 x 3.5, $1 at Big Lots)
- small amount of polyfil
- scrap piece of fabric
- scissors
- glue gun


 First, take the glass out of the frame. You don't need it, so you can do with it as you please. I'm a proponent of holding onto it for future crafty endeavours. 

I used the cardboard that came with the frame as the backing for my fabric. It was sturdy, and it was the right size, so I figured why not. I cut my fabric to fit, leaving enough extra to wrap around to the back. 

Then I began to glue the fabric down. I did the bottom and one of the sides first.


I went ahead and added a bit of the polyfil then.


 I glued down the top and half of the other side then, leaving a space to add more polyfil. I didn't even use all that was in the photo. Actually, I didn't use much at all. Just enough to lightly pad the cardboard was enough. 

After gluing the fabric down completely, I went back and made sure it was secure.

 But the front looked awesome!


 It took a bit of maneuvering to get the padded part back into the frame, but I consider that a good thing. It's in there firmly now, and the frame helps poof out the middle. Which makes it look better as well as work better.

One straight pin later, and it was complete!
Isn't it cute?!

It came out amazingly, and I'm pleased as punch with it. 
I sent it to the lady today, and she told me she'd be putting it to use straight away! 

Hooray for Pinterest crafts that aren't fails! XD

As Seen on Pinterest - The Retirement Survival Kit

One of my co-workers recently retired. I'm happy for her, because she really deserves it and everything...but I hate that she's leaving me!  I tried to bribe her into staying. I even threatened to lock her in the office and refuse to let her go.  Oddly, she didn't like that suggestion.  Since she was set on this notion of retirement, I immediately began scouring Pinterest for some sort of cute retirement gift for her. I knew I'd find something there, and I was not disappointed! Fairly soon after beginning my search, I came across the 'Retirement Survival Kit'.  (Photo from Pinterest - original pin link ) The pin was a link to an eBay auction, but of course my first thought on seeing it was "I can do that!". So I did.   I really should have taken a better photo of it. But this is all I managed to get. So, uh, ta da! I changed a few of the items around (the original link was from the UK, so some of the items weren't available)

As Seen on Pinterest: Pillar of Cloud and Fire Craft

Woo hoo! It's time for another As Seen on Pinterest post!  This time, it was a cute little kids' craft to go along with the story of Moses and the Children of Israel being led through the wilderness by the pillar of cloud by day, and fire by night. It fit nicely into one of our Sunday School lessons this quarter, so we decided to give it a whirl! Here's the original pin: You'll need toilet paper tubes, construction paper, tissue paper (white and orange), scissors and tape. It's a pretty straightforward craft, really. Cut the construction paper to cover the tube and tape it down. Then cut a generous square of the tissue paper (one in each color) and use some tape to stick it to the insides of the tube. That part is a bit tricky, but with some finagling, it can be done! And that's it! Isn't it cute? The kiddos loved them too. It was so great hearing them telling others what it was and what it signified. Unt
