As Seen on Pinterest: The Brilliant Braid

I have a confession: I am terrible at styling hair. Really terrible. My repertoire usually consists of straight with the occasional headband thrown in, or a pony tail. There are a few variations here and there, but they are few and far between.

However, I recently decided that if I was going to have hair as long as I do, then I really should learn how to do something with it. So I began scouring Pinterest for some easy ideas to try out.

And that is where I discovered the Brilliant Braid!
Here's the original pin (which I tried to embed, but apparently such things elude me. Apologies.).

It looked simple enough, so I decided to give it a try. Here's my first attempt at it.

Not too shabby, eh? And it's absolutely easy as pie, even for the styling-challenged like myself.  I did it a few times to get a better grasp of it, and I've found a bit of practice helps to 'fine tune' the process. It goes quicker each time, too, which is a bonus!

Here's the one I wore to work last week. I love how it turned out!

A bit of detail...

To be honest, I'm quite excited to have this new, easy style to throw into the mix. It'll be a nice change from the ponytail, especially on those horrifically humid Summer days.
It's gotten me motivated to start experimenting with the other styles I've seen on Pinterest (and consequentially pinned onto my new hair board).

Who knows; maybe I'll get the hang of this hair thing yet! :)

Winter Soldier Scarf & Semi-Pattern

Happy Friday! (And also Happy Pi Day, for those of you of the geeky persuasion!) This scarf began as one of those 'I want to make something for meeeeee' projects. I'd been buried under requests for things for others (which is nice, don't get me wrong), that it had been awhile since I was able to whip up something for myself. So one night I decided I'd stop at the store and buy myself some yarn to make myself a new scarf. Allllll for me.  I chose the colors originally thinking it would be a Thor-inspired color scheme, but once I started working I realized it was more Captain America-ish than anything. Which works just as well for me.  And so, I'm dubbing this my 'Winter Solider' scarf, in honor of the new Captain America move coming out in April! (And no, I'm not being paid to plug this movie by Marvel, I just love them is all!)   I used three colors of Caron Simply Soft Party yarn, which I'd never used before but ended up ...

Valentine Crafts 2015 Roundup!

Happy Valentine's Day!  I seriously intended to post this long before now, but...well I forgot, okay? But hey, better late than never, am I right?  Right.  Moving on!  I decided to do a little something special for my friends this year, and I found an adorable idea on Pinterest . I decided I wanted to fancy mine up a bit more than what these were.  I snagged a heart outline from here , and then jazzed it up in Photoshop to add the color and text. All that was left then was to simply cut them out and paste them onto the socks! The brand I found had a cardboard topper, so it was perfect for what I had in mind. Aren't they adorable? I love how they turned out! And in case you want to use this idea for yourself, here's a printable version of the graphic I used!  To be honest, I can't remember what size I saved it as, but I'm thinking it's in the neighborhood of 2.5x3? (Or maybe 2x3.5? I don't k...

Bofur Inspired Hat Pattern

(Check out this handy dandy Pinterest ready graphic I made!) In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, one of the dwarves (Bofur) wore this really, really awesome hat.  I fell in love with it, and decided to see if I could crochet my own version of it.  Well, first I scoured the internet, hoping for a pattern, and when I didn't find one THEN I decided to make my own.  And since I know there are others out there who would love to have this pattern, I'm posting it here! PLEASE NOTE: You may make items and sell them using this pattern, but PLEASE link back to the pattern and credit me as the source. It's only fair! :) The Bofur Inspired Hat Pattern You will need: Red Heart Super Saver (I forgot the actual color name, but it’s brown, okay?)
