The $5 Savings Plan

A new year means new goals. One of my goals for 2015? Pay off all my credit card debt!
I made pretty great progress through 2014 on paying it down, but this year is THE year it's going to be gone, gone, GONE.

I saw the $5 savings plan idea floating around Pinterest (Link goes to the blog post I originally saw & pinned), and decided it might be a good way to achieve my goal a bit quicker.

Really the only rule I've set for myself as far as this plan goes is that when I find myself with a $5 bill, it HAS to be saved. No cheating. Period.

All is going well thus far (I've only saved a few, but I've only been actively doing this for a week or so now). It's almost been exciting, getting a $5 in change from somewhere and thinking "yep, this is going in my jar!"

Well.

I stopped at a local convenience store recently to buy a couple drinks (it's the only store around here that stocks the 20oz Sprite Zero). I was supposed to get $15 back in change.
Great! I'd get another $5 to go in my jar!

But then this happened.

Yep. I got ALL my change back in $5 bills.

Sigh

I'm still determined not to cheat, though. I figure this will just get me closer to my goal even quicker!

How's your new year going so far? :)

Bofur Inspired Hat Pattern

(Check out this handy dandy Pinterest ready graphic I made!) In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, one of the dwarves (Bofur) wore this really, really awesome hat.  I fell in love with it, and decided to see if I could crochet my own version of it.  Well, first I scoured the internet, hoping for a pattern, and when I didn't find one THEN I decided to make my own.  And since I know there are others out there who would love to have this pattern, I'm posting it here! PLEASE NOTE: You may make items and sell them using this pattern, but PLEASE link back to the pattern and credit me as the source. As Seen on Pinterest - The Retirement Survival Kit

One of my co-workers recently retired. I'm happy for her, because she really deserves it and everything...but I hate that she's leaving me!  I tried to bribe her into staying. I even threatened to lock her in the office and refuse to let her go.  Oddly, she didn't like that suggestion.  Since she was set on this notion of retirement, I immediately began scouring Pinterest for some sort of cute retirement gift for her. I knew I'd find something there, and I was not disappointed! Fairly soon after beginning my search, I came across the 'Retirement Survival Kit'.  (Photo from Pinterest - original pin link ) The pin was a link to an eBay auction, but of course my first thought on seeing it was "I can do that!". So I did.   I really should have taken a better photo of it. But this is all I managed to get. So, uh, ta da! I changed a few of the items around (the original link was from the UK, so some of the items weren't available)...

An Honorary Reporter & Member of the K-Influencer Academy for 2021!

Shortly after my last post, I realized I may have gotten ahead of myself a little bit.  Oops.  My last post, if you recall, was the very first article I had written and submitted as an Honorary Reporter for Korea.net.  But I completely forgot to mention that I had been accepted as an Honorary Reporter, much less explain any of it.   So that’s what I’m doing now! I found out about the Honorary Reporter program earlier in the year through a Facebook group for the K-Friends program I joined last year.  After doing some research into it, I applied for the program back in March, and found out I had been accepted in April.  Also around the same time, I applied to be part of the 2021 K-Influencer Academy, another program offered by Korea.net, and found out I had been accepted into that as well!  But what does all of this mean ? The Honorary Reporters, to quote this article from Korea.net : “consist of foreign nationals both in and out of Korea w...
