Abomination Cookies

How's quarantine and/or social distancing going, friends?

I've been spending more time at home, which has been good for my bank account (except for that whole online shopping thing).  I've spent them majority of my time reading, crocheting, catching up on my extensive Netflix list, and spending inordinate amounts of time on my Animal Crossing island.  That game is seriously addicting.

One other thing I've done during my time at home is to make what my family has dubbed 'abomination cookies'.  These are essentially two/three ingredient cookies, with one of the ingredients being bananas, which my younger brother hates, hence the moniker 'abomination cookies', since he often refers to bananas as abominations.

However, these cookies are delicious and I've made probably six batches of them so far.  We had a couple bananas that were overripe, and so I typed "what to do with overripe bananas" into Google, and this recipe came up.

It consists of:

Two overripe bananas
One cup rolled oats (I subbed in quick oats)
OPTIONAL: Whatever else you want to add

That's literally it.

If you don't have oats or other supplies, ordering online is a great way to get some extra ingredients quickly. Look on DoorDash for your favorite Italian deli, grocery store or bodega and get what you want.  Some great things to put in your cookies could include chocolate chips, raisins or other dried fruit or various candies and chocolates that you could mix in.

Smash up the bananas in a bowl, then mix in your oats and whatever else you want to add.  The original recipe says to drop them onto a greased pan, but I prefer to make mine a little more cookie shaped with my hands, and I used parchment paper instead of a greased pan.

However you prefer to put them on the pan, once you're done, bake at 350 degrees for about 10-14 minutes.

The end result is moist, deliciously chewy cookies that taste a little bit like banana bread.  I keep meaning to add a dash of cinnamon, or some nuts to a batch to see if it helps amplify this flavor, but I keep forgetting it.

I have, however, tried out white chocolate morsels.. (our personal favorite so far)

Salted caramel morsels...
(no judgements on my morsel/cookie ratio please)

And semi-sweet mini chocolate chips (the most recent batch).

So, they're not the prettiest cookies...but they taste amazing, so what they lack in aesthetic, they make up for in flavor.

Unless you're talking to my younger brother, in which case, they're disgusting abominations masquerading as cookies.

To each his own, I guess.

What have you been doing to occupy the time while social distancing, staying at home, or quarantining?  Share with me in the comments, and let me know if you plan on baking your own batch of abomination cookies, too!

Winter Soldier Scarf & Semi-Pattern

Happy Friday! (And also Happy Pi Day, for those of you of the geeky persuasion!) This scarf began as one of those 'I want to make something for meeeeee' projects. I'd been buried under requests for things for others (which is nice, don't get me wrong), that it had been awhile since I was able to whip up something for myself. So one night I decided I'd stop at the store and buy myself some yarn to make myself a new scarf. Allllll for me.  I chose the colors originally thinking it would be a Thor-inspired color scheme, but once I started working I realized it was more Captain America-ish than anything. Which works just as well for me.  And so, I'm dubbing this my 'Winter Solider' scarf, in honor of the new Captain America move coming out in April! (And no, I'm not being paid to plug this movie by Marvel, I just love them is all!)   I used three colors of Caron Simply Soft Party yarn, which I'd never used before but ended up ...

Bofur Inspired Hat Pattern

(Check out this handy dandy Pinterest ready graphic I made!) In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, one of the dwarves (Bofur) wore this really, really awesome hat.  I fell in love with it, and decided to see if I could crochet my own version of it.  Well, first I scoured the internet, hoping for a pattern, and when I didn't find one THEN I decided to make my own.  And since I know there are others out there who would love to have this pattern, I'm posting it here! PLEASE NOTE: You may make items and sell them using this pattern, but PLEASE link back to the pattern and credit me as the source. Valentine Crafts 2015 Roundup!

Happy Valentine's Day!  I seriously intended to post this long before now, but...well I forgot, okay? But hey, better late than never, am I right?  Right.  Moving on!  I decided to do a little something special for my friends this year, and I found an adorable idea on Pinterest . I decided I wanted to fancy mine up a bit more than what these were.  I snagged a heart outline from here , and then jazzed it up in Photoshop to add the color and text. All that was left then was to simply cut them out and paste them onto the socks! The brand I found had a cardboard topper, so it was perfect for what I had in mind. Aren't they adorable? I love how they turned out! And in case you want to use this idea for yourself, here's a printable version of the graphic I used!  To be honest, I can't remember what size I saved it as, but I'm thinking it's in the neighborhood of 2.5x3? (Or maybe 2x3.5? I don't k...
